XeFGF

[Xenopus laevis embryonic fibroblast growth factor] This factor was recognized as a cDNA isolated from Xenopus laevis embryos. The cDNA sequence reveals that it is related closely to fibroblast growth factor-like proteins of mammalians (see also: FGF), called FGF4 (product of the hst oncogene) and FGF6.

Unlike bFGF (FGF2) XeFGF is a secreted factor. XeFGF expression is highest in the gastrula stage of development and probably functions as a mesoderm inducing factor (see also: XTC-MIF).
