[Xenopus laevis matrix metalloproteinase] The cDNA for this protease was cloned from Xenopus laevis embryos (Yang and Kurkinen, 1998). XMMP is a protein of 604 amino acids including a putative signal sequence of 22 residues. XMMP is structurally related to human MMP-19 and is distinguished from other matrix metalloproteinases by the occurrence of an inserted cysteine residue in the catalytic domain.
