[uterine sensitization-associated gene-1]. The gene encoding this protein has been identified by Yamagita et al (2004) in a search for kidney-specific transcripts. It is the ortholog of a rat gene expressed preferentially in sensitized endometrium that is receptive to the implanting blastocyst (Simmons and Kennedy, 2002). The protein is identical with Ectodin and has been termed also SOSTDC1 [sclerostin domain-containing protein-1]. Independently, USAG-1 has been identified also as Wise [Wnt modulator in surface ectoderm].
