U51
This gene is encoded in the genome of human herpesvirus 6 (HHV-6) [Herpesvirus 6 U51 protein]. The protein is a multiple transmembrane glycoprotein with similarity to a G-protein-coupled receptor that functions as a receptor for chemokines.
U51 has been shown to function as a receptor for one of the CC-Chemokines, RANTES (CCL5) (Milne et al, 2000). It also binds other chemokines, such as eotaxin (CCL11); MCP-1 (CCL2), MCP-3 (CCL7), MCP-4 (CCL13) and the virus-encoded chemokine viral MIP-2. In
