G-protein-coupled receptors

[G-protein-coupled receptor]

abbr. GPRs, GPCRs or GCR and followed by a number.

G-protein-coupled receptors regulate the synthesis of intracellular second messengers such as cAMP, inositol phosphates, diacylglycerol, and calcium ions. They share a common molecular architecture, i.e., all receptors have seven-transmembrane domains (7TM), three extracellular loops (EC1, EC2, EC3), three intracellular loops (IC1, IC2, and IC3), an amino-terminal extracellular domain, and an intracellular carboxyl terminus (Lefkowitz, 2004; Sanders et al, 2008). Owing to their structure, these receptors are also being referred to as 7TM G-protein-coupled receptors [7-transmembrane-domain receptors ... ... ... ... ...
