[target of methylation-induced silencing-1] This protein, which contains a Caspase-associated recruitment domain (see: CARD), has been isolated by Conway et al (2000). It is identical with ASC ([apoptosis-associated speck-like protein containing a CARD] and PYCARD. The new designation is CARD5.
Expression of the gene is silenced by DNA methylation in breast cancer cell lines, but not in normal breast tissues. Breast cancer cell lines engineered to express TMS1 show inhibited growth and reduced numbers of surviving colonies in a colony formation assay.
