This antimicrobial peptide, termed RP9 peptide, has been isolated from leukocyte extracts of the freshwater crocodile (Crocodylus siamensis). It is active against Gram-negative Vibrio cholerae and Gram-positive Bacillus pumilus. At the MIC (61.2 uM), it causes 3.3 % hemolysis of human red blood cells.
The peptide also shows weak anticancer peptide activity (IC50: 126 uM for HeLa cells and 168 uM for CaSki cells) (Theansungnoen T et al, 2016).
