[Ras-related C3 botulinum toxin substrate 1] This mammalian gene encodes the species homolog of Caenorhabditis elegans CED10. RAC1 is a member of the Rho family of GTPases and regulates multiple intracellular signaling pathways that control, among other things, cytoskeleton organization, transcription, cell migration, and cell proliferation. Aberrant RAC1 signaling can result in
numerous pathological conditions (Bosco et al, 2009). The functions of RAC1 and its interaction partners have been conserved in evolution (Gumienny et al, 2001).
