Ninjurin-2
[nerve injury-induced protein-2] approved gene symbol NINJ2. Ninjurin-2 is a homolog of a homophilic cellular adhesion molecule ninjurin, isolated previously as a gene induced in Schwann cells after nerve injury (Araki and Milbrandt, 2000). Ninjurin-1 and Ninjurin-2 share conserved hydrophobic transmembrane domain regions but do not contain a comparable adhesion motif and do not interact with each other.
Ninjurin-2 is expressed constitutively in mature sensory and enteric neurons of the peripheral nervous system. It is not expressed in glial cells or in autonomic ganglia. Like Ninjurin, Ninjurin-2 expression is upregulated in
