Neutrophil recruitment inhibitory factor

abbr. NRIF (a term with multiple meanings). This biochemically uncharacterized activity isolated from macrophage monolayers stimulated with bacterial lipopolysaccharides (Tavares et al, 1989; Tavares-Murta et al, 1993). The factor specifically blocks carrageenin induced migration of neutrophils into the peritoneal cavities of rats, following intravenous injection. Pretreatment with NRIF also suppresses the increase of eosinophils in the bronchoalveolar lavage fluid of guinea pigs sensitized with ovalbumin and challenged later by intranasal antigen administration.
