eosinophils

[eosinophil, eosinophil-derived, eosinophil cell-derived]

Eosinophils are a type of granulocytes (eosinophilic granulocytes or eosinophilic leukocytes) that comprise only 2-4 % of the blood leukocytes (for a historical overview see also: Kay, 2015). In foreign language publications the term neutrocytes may refer to eosinophils.

Using colony formation assays, Denburg et al (1985) and Leary and Ogawa 1984) have suggested that eosinophils develop from a common basophil and eosinophil progenitor cell (compare also basophil-mast cell progenitors in entry about mast cells regarding progenitor cells).
