[neuromuscular junction-capping cells] This cell type is found at neuromuscular junctions. Neuromuscular junctions are crucial structures in the intercellular signaling processes that control movement and behaviour. They comprise interfacing motor axon terminals and motor endplates of skeletal muscle fibers as well as Schwann cells (Hughes et al, 2006).
NMJ-capping cells have been reported to constitute a fourth cell type in the neuromuscular junction (Court FA et al, 2008). The authors have proposed the name kranocytes (from Greek 'kranos' for helmet) for this cell type. These cells may correspond to endoneurial cells described by Robertson (1956), or perisynaptic fibroblasts
