[neutrophil-activating protein-1] This protein was isolated initially from stimulated mononuclear phagocytes. The protein is called also NAF (neutrophil-activating factor). NAP-1 is identical with TCF (T-lymphocyte chemotactic factor).
NAP-1 is the N-terminally processed form of LAI (leukocyte adhesion inhibitor). NAP-1 is identical with IL8 and belongs, therefore, to the family of chemotactic cytokines known as Chemokines. The new designation is CXCL8 and the factor is known also as SCYB8.
The protein is chemotactic for T-lymphocytes and basophils
