abbr. NAF (a term with multiple meanings). NAF is called also NAP-1 (neutrophil-activating protein-1). NAF has a length of 72 amino acids. Variants of 77 (+AVLPR), 70 and 69 amino acids have been described also. NAF belongs to the family of chemotactic cytokines known as Chemokines. The factor is identical with IL8. The new designation is CXCL8 and the factor is known also as SCYB8.
NAF was identified initially as a factor inducing the release of enzymes from neutrophils. NAF promotes the release of histamines, leukotrienes in IL3-activated basophils, stimulates the production of reactive oxygen
