The monoclonal antibody of this name detects a highly glycosylated protein functioning as the murine lymph node homing receptor, which mediates the selective attachment of lymphocytes to specialized high endothelial venules found within secondary lymphoid organs (Lasky et al, 1989; Siegelman et al, 1989. Camerini et al (1989) have shown that Leu8 is the human equivalent of the lymph node homing receptor MEL-14. Functional studies show that MEL-14 is identical with human LAM-1 (Kishimoto et al, 1990).
In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD62L.
