[leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor 6] The approved gene symbol is LILRA1 [leukocyte immunoglobulin-like receptor subfamily A member 1]. The gene encoding this protein has been cloned by Borges et al (1997). LIR6 is a transmembrane protein with a short cytoplasmic domain and no ITIM motifs. Two transcripts have been identified. The full-length protein (489 amino acids) contains 4 immunoglobulin superfamily extracellular domains. The truncated variant (289 amino acids) only contains the first 2 Ig-like domains.
In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD85i (see: CD85).
