CD85 constitutes a family of related receptors, which, in the nomenclature of CD antigens, are distinguished by the addition of a letter suffix (André et al, 2001). The CD85 antigen has received the designation CD85j (see below). CD85 was defined originally as an antigen recognized by monoclonal antibodies VMP55 and GHI/75. Banham et al (1999) have shown that the antigen defined by these antigens is the same as LILRB1 (HGNC nomenclature). For earlier CD antigen assignment see also: Engel and Tedder, 1994)
