This gene is called also SCYA2 (small inducible cytokine A2) (see also: SCY family of cytokines) or TSG-8. It was identified initially in murine 3T3 fibroblasts as a gene strongly expressed after treatment of the cells with growth factors and mitogens. The murine gene maps to chromosome 11.
A potent inducer of JE synthesis in 3T3 cells is PDGF. In murine macrophages JE is induced also by M-CSF, IL1, EGF, bacterial endotoxins, IFN-gamma
