[interferon-stimulated gene-15] ISG15 is a 15 kDa with features of ubiquitin identified originally as a protein the expression of which is induced rapidly by IFN-alpha and IFN-beta (Farrell et al, 1979; Korant et al, 1984; Haas et al, 1987; Loeb and Haas, 1992), IFN-omega (Künzi and Pitha, 1996), and significantly less by IFN-gamma (Loeb and Haas, 1992). ISG15 is one of the most robustly induced transcripts after type 1 interferon stimulation (Der et al, 1998). The cDNA has been cloned by Blomstrom et al (1986).
