INA-6
A human myeloma cell line established from patient with IgG-kappa plasma cell leukemia (Burger et al, 1994). The cells are strictly dependent on exogenous IL6 for growth and survival (see also: Factor-dependent cell lines). Withdrawal of IL6 rapidly induces cell death by apoptosis (Brocke-Heidrich et al, 2004).
Viral IL6 encoded by KSHV has been shown to possess proliferative activity on these cells. vIL6 signaling involves the IL6 receptor and gp130 (Burger et al, 1998).
