[Kaposi sarcoma-associated herpesvirus] KSHV is a human herpesvirus, designated HHV-8, [human herpesvirus type 8] that been identified with high frequency in all epidemiological forms of AIDS-associated angiogenic tumors of mixed cellularity known as Kaposi's sarcoma. It is found also in AIDS-associated body cavity lymphomas and in some normal individuals. The virus is considered as the infectious agent responsible for Kaposi sarcoma in patients with and without HIV infection. The viral genome (140 kb) has been sequenced completely (Neipel et al, 1998). KSHV has been implicated also in the etiology of two lymphoproliferative diseases, primary effusion lymphoma
