[Ig lambda-5] In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD179b.

The nucleotide sequience encoding this protein has been identified by Sakaguchi and Melchers (1986) in a library constructed from messenger RNA of the murine pre-B lymphoma cell line 70Z/3. The mRNA is expressed selectively in pre-B-cells. Part of this sequence shows strong homology to constant (C) and joining (J) region sequences of lambda 1 light chains and has been termed lambda 5 by the authors. A databank synonym for this protein is also IGLL1 [immunoglobulin lambda-like polypeptide 1].
