also: pre-B-lymphocytes. One identifiable intermediate cell type in a series of developmental stages leading to the generation of B-cells (Hardy and Hayakawa, 2001). Pre-B-cells develop from pro-B-cells and are defined as CD19(+) CD34(-) CD10(+) IgM(-) (Schatz and Baltimore, 2004).
Two types are distinguished. Large pre-B-cells are characterized by the presence of VDJ rearranged H chain genes, germline L chain genes, the expression of m chains in pre-B receptors, absence of expression of RAG recombinase and TdT, expression of surrogate L chains, Ig antibody expression, expression of BTK.
