The monoclonal antibody of this name has been identified among a series of antibodies raised in BALB/c mice after immunization against a HLA class I deficient lymphocyte cell line that is susceptible to LAK cell cytotoxicity and expresses EBV. The IA4 cDNA is virtually identical to R2, a mRNA species identified in activated human T-cells by subtractive hybridization. In the nomenclature of CD antigens the protein has been given the designation CD82.
