This factor has been identified by Fernandes et al (2000) in search of sequences similar to mouse Nkcl. The cDNA contains the full-length coding sequence for CLECSF11 and encodes a protein of 183 amino acids with a C-type carbohydrate recognition domain, but no transmembrane domain or signal peptide.
HECL is expressed only in peripheral blood leukocytes (erythroid small colony precursor cells, mature neutrophils, and macrophages. RT-PCR detects HECL expression in testis.
