This G-protein-coupled receptor is known also as HCAR2 or HCA2 [Hydroxycarboxylic acid receptor 2]. It is sometimes being referred to as HM74A (see: HM74). Another designation is NIACR1 [Niacin receptor 1; Nicotinic acid receptor 1]). GPR109A acts as a high-affinity receptor for both nicotinic acid and (D)-beta-hydroxybutyrate and mediates increased adiponectin secretion and decreased lipolysis through G(i)-protein-mediated inhibition of adenylyl cyclase.
