[Fenneropenaeus chinensis hepatopancreas-specific lectin] This lectin has been isolated from the hepatopancreas of the Chinese shrimp, Fenneropenaeus chinensis. The cDNA encodes a protein of 159 amino acids. Fc-hsL contains a single C-type lectin-like domain (CTLD) or carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) and has an EPN motif (Glu-Pro-Asn) with a predicted ligand binding site specific for mannose. Fc-hsL is expressed constitutively in the hepatopancreas of normal shrimp and also in the stomach. Its expression is upregulated after infection with with bacteria or virus. Fc-hsL is detected also in the hemolymph. Fc-hsL has no hemagglutinating activity, but calcium-dependent agglutinating activity against some Gram-positive bacteria and
