abbr. EDF (a term with multiple meanings); see also: Eo-DF. This is a generic name used to describe activities promoting the differentiation of eosinophils in cultivated bone marrow (see also: BMC, Hematopoiesis).
One particular factor which promotes the growth of immature hematopoietic progenitor cells (see: BFU-E) in a colony formation assay, leading to the development of colonies of eosinophils, is identical with IL5 (correlating with the activity of a factor described as BCGF-2). It is probably the same factor as Eo-CSF (eosinophil colony stimulating factor).
