[Eosinophil chemotactic polypeptide-1] This protein is released by human platelets following their stimulation by thrombin. It is identical with RANTES and belongs to the group of cytokines known as chemokines (subgroup of CC-Chemokines). The approved gene symbol is CCL5. The factor is known also as SCYA5.
A variant of EoCP, designated EoCP-2, differs from EoCP-1 in two amino acid positions at the N-terminal end. Both proteins are strongly chemotactic for eosinophils (see also: Chemotaxis).
