In the nomenclature of CD antigens this protein has been given the designation CD280. This protein has been identified as the 180 kDa protein p180 by a panel of monoclonal antibodies raised against human fibroblast cell surface proteins (Isacke et al, 1990). The protein is a constitutive endocytic recycling glycoprotein that is capable of internalizing monoclonal antibodies directed against it (Howard and Isacke, 2002; Sheikh et al, 2000).
Sheikh et al (2000) have reported that the protein is related to the macrophage mannose receptor and is expressed on fibroblasts, endothelial cells, and macrophages. The protein has been shown to be essential for cellular uptake of collagen and promotes
