This factor (approximately 44 kDa) is secreted into the conditioned medium of murine meth A fibrosarcoma cells together with another unrelated factor, EMAP-2 (Kao et al, 1992, 1994). EMAP-1 is identical with Meth A factor.

Entries in protein sequence databank information state that this factor is the same as calgizzarin or S100A11.
