[S100 calcium binding protein A11] This is a calcium-binding protein related to the S100 family of proteins, identified originally in chicken gizzard and called calgizzarin (Todoroki et al, 1991). Another designation is S100C [S100 calcium binding protein C] (Moog-Lutz et al, 1995). The designation S100C/A11 has been used also. The rabbit gene has been cloned by Watanabe et al (1991), and the human homolog has been cloned by Tanaka et al (1995).
