This factor of approximately 44 kDa is isolated from Meth A fibrosarcoma cells. It is produced also by a number of human and rodent tumors. The factor induces the synthesis of tissue thromboplastin (factor III) by endothelial cells. It enhances the procoagulant activity of the endothelium mediated by TNF (Claus et al, 1990).
Meth A factor has been renamed EMAP-1 (Endothelial-monocyte activating polypeptide-1) and, according to databank entries appears to be identical with S100A11.
