EGF family
[epidermal growth factor family] also: EGF-related growth factors. Members of this family, which are ligands for a set of related receptors that act by engaging the EGF receptor, include EGF, TGF-alpha, HB-EGF, betacellulin, amphiregulin, epiregulin, neuregulins. These factors are produced as membrane forms that can engage in juxtacrine signalling. The soluble form, which can perform autocrine and paracrine functions, is released by proteolytic cleavage. The principle enzymes engaged in the process of ectodomain shedding have been identified as ADAM10 and ADAM17
