DCC
(approved gene symbol) [Deleted in Colorectal Cancer] A gene identified originally by virtue of its absence in a high percentage of colorectal cancer and a reduced or negligent expression in colorectal cancer tissues (Miyake et al, 1994; Cho et al, 1994; Hedrick et al, 1994). DCC is expressed by goblet cells (Velcich et al, 1999).
The sequence has been described as CRC18 [colorectal cancer related chromosome sequence 18] (Fearon et al, 1990). The Caenorhabditis elegans homolog of DCC is UNC40 (Chan et al, 1995). A databank synonym is IGDCC1 [Immunoglobulin superfamily DCC subclass member 1]. The Drosophila melanogaster gene
