[goblet cell]
The name of these cells derives from their characteristic shape in conventionally-fixed tissues. These cells are actually cylindrical but assume this shape during fixation. The nucleus and the organelles of these cells are at the base. The cell body contains membrane-bound secretory granules filled with mucus. These cells are being referred to also as beaker cells, caliciform cells, and chalice cells.
Goblet cells are specialized epithelial cells that are especially prominent in the intestinal and respiratory tracts and are found scattered among other cells in the epithelium
