[CATERPILLER family] This family comprises a number of immune regulatory proteins. The nomenclature for the CLR family is based on the relationship to one protein identified originally as CATERPILLER. Members of this family and various subfamilies have been described under various names (Harton et al, (2002; Ting and Williams, 2005).
Another name for this family is NLR family, based on the presence of two commonly found protein domains (nucleotide-binding domain and LRR; leucine-rich repeats) (Ting et al, 2008). NLR designations have been chosen as the approved gene symbols.
