[cellular apoptosis susceptibility gene] The cDNA for this gene was identified by virtue of its ability to render MCF-7 breast cancer cells resistant to cell death by apoptosis caused by the ADP-ribosylating toxins Pseudomonas exotoxin, Pseudomonas exotoxin-derived immunotoxins, diphtheria toxin, and TNF-alpha and TNF-beta (Brinkmann et al, 1995, 1996).
