BCL2 homology domains
A growing protein family positively or negatively influencing cell death by apoptosis has been identified. BCL2 is the prototypical member of an evolutionary conserved large protein family regulating cell death by apoptosis. These proteins display different patterns of expression as well as function (Chao and Korsmeyer, 1998).
Proteins that are related to BCL2 are characterized by the presence of one or more highly conserved stretches of homology with BCL2, designated BH1, BH2, BH3, BH4 and collectively being referred to as BH domain. Some proteins (
