abbr. BIP. BAX-inhibiting peptide is a membrane-permeable peptide of five amino acids (VPMLK) derived from Ku70, the 70 kDa subunit of the Ku complex that is known to play an important role in DNA double-strand break (DSB) repair in the nucleus (Sawada et al, 2003). The peptide suppresses the mitochondrial translocation of BAX and inhibits cell death by apoptosis mediated by BAX and induced by staurosporine, UVC irradiation, and anti-cancer drugs in several types of cells.
