This protein is related to BAG1 and shares a C-terminal so-called BAG domain with BAG1, BAG2, BAG4, and BAG5 (Takayama et al, 1999). The protein interacts specifically with the ATPase domain of the chaperone hsp70 and inhibits its chaperone activity. This interaction or interactions with BCL2 may also be responsible for its anti-apoptotic activities (Doong et al, 2002).
