B61
The gene encoding the secreted protein B61 (187 amino acids) has been identified by Holzman et al (1990). The sequences of human, rat, and mouse B61 are highly conserved (Takahashi and Ikeda, 1995).
B61 is an immediate-early response gene expressed in human umbilical vein endothelial cells in response to treatment with TNF-alpha (Holzman et al, 1990). Takahashi and Ikeda (1995) have reported that B61 is expressed in epithelial cells in various tissues. B61 is expressed in hypertrophic chondrocytes and osteoblasts and in neurons of dorsal root ganglia.
