Angiomotin (abbr. AMOT, which is also the approved gene symbol) belongs to a family with two other members, Angiomotin-like-1 and Angiomotin-like-2 characterized by the presence of a coiled-coil domain and a C-terminal PDZ binding domain (Bratt et al, 2002). Kim et al (1997) have identified angiomotin as CAG-2 [CAG trinucleotide repeat sequence 2], a cDNA showing trinucleotide repeats expressed in mouse brain.
Angiomotin protein has been identified originally as an 80 kDa binding protein (p80-angiomotin; abbr. p80-Amot) for the angiogenesis inhibitor angiostatin
