[abortive apoptosis] a term introduced by Raina et al (2001) to describe a situation which may represent an exit from cell death by apoptosis mediated by caspases that leads to neuronal survival in Alzheimer's disease. Neuronal survival in Alzheimer's disease is attributed to a lack of effective apoptotic signal propagation to downstream caspase effectors.
