[Androgen induced growth factor] This heparin binding factor (see also: HBGF) is found in the conditioned medium of a murine androgen-dependent mammary carcinoma cell line (SC-3) where it acts as an autocrine growth factor increasing the proliferation of these cells (Tanaka et al, 1992; Sumitani et al, 1994).
AIGF has a length of 215 amino acids and displays a 30-40 % homology to other factors belonging the fibroblast growth factor family (see: FGF). With the cloning of the ninth member of the FGF family (see: FGF9) AIGF has been referred to as FGF8. The human FGF8
