(approved gene symbol) [Fibroblast growth factor-8] The cDNA of the FGF8 gene has been isolated from mouse testis by Lorenzi et al (1995). The structure and sequence of human FGF8 has been reported by Gemel et al (1996). The FGF8 gene has been mapped to human chromosome 10q24 (Yoshiura et al, 1997). The protein encoded by the FGF8 gene is identical with AIGF (androgen induced growth factor). In some databanks HBGF-8 [heparin binding growth factor-8] is listed as a synonym; note: the same synonym is used also PTN [pleiotrophin], which is identical with HBNF [
