These cells are derived from a rhabdomyosarcoma of a female patient. The cells form colonies on soft agar (see also: Colony formation assay). They are tumorigenic in mice treated with antisera against thymocytes.
The conditioned medium of these cells contains several activities inhibiting the growth of epithelial and hematopoietic cells (see also: hematopoiesis). For secreted products see: A673-cell-derived growth-inhibitory activity, EGF-receptor-binding peptide, AIG activity, TIF (tumor cell growth-inhibiting factor).
