This human cell line with features of macrophages has been established from peripheral blood (Dialynas et al, 1997). The cells express a number of lineage-specific markers and a broad array of intercellular adhesion molecules, including functional CD16, the low-affinity Fc receptor for IgG, and high levels of HLA class 1 and class 2. Ligation of HLA-DR, but not HLA class 1, by monoclonal antibody results in the efficient induction of tissue factor. IFN-gamma upregulates the efficiency of calcium ion mobilization in response to ligation of HLA-DR.
The conditioned medium of these cells contains a biochemically uncharacterized negative regulator of hematopoiesis
