This term is used to describe the conversion of differentiated cells into another differentiated cell type (Slack and Tosh, 2001; for overview see also: Cieślar-Pobuda A et al, 2017). The term "plasticity" has been used in this context to denote the conversion of cells from one cell type into another one. Mostly, this term is used in the context of stem cells (which, by definition, should show plasticity, i.e., the capacity to develop into any of the different cell types of an organism).
