Hay et al (1995) have demonstrated that mutations in the Drosophila melanogaster thread gene (CG12284) are dominant enhancers of cell death induced by the reaper protein and that thread encodes a protein homologous to baculovirus inhibitors of apoptosis (IAP). They have termed the protein encoded by thread DIAP1 [Drosophila melanogaster IAP1] See: DIAP.
